Mountain Biking Routes

Like the challenges of road cycling, Mountain Biking routes can also be hard to navigate. Especially some of the better single track can be near impossible to navigate without a guide. Where are the water stops, what's the difficulty level of the trail, etc.

Unfortunately our local riding here in Castro Valley has most of the single track posted as off limits. Yes, some ride those trails, but we will stick to the legal trails.

A nice all around loop I have below starts you right at Proctor School, again a great meet up spot, and takes you through some of the Lake Chabot and San Leandro Reservoir. There is a bit of single track, but mostly double or fire roads. Nothing is too technical, so anyone except an absolute beginner would be fine. It is a longer ride, you probably don't want this to be your first mountain bike ride. Enjoy the view, stop at the top of Soaring Hawk (after you cross Redwood Road and climb the first hill) and take a picture. Be careful of the Poison Oak if you venture off the trail at all, it's prevalent in the Bay Area.
